About us
Clear numbers before you buy a car abroad
Import Pilot helps private buyers in Switzerland see the full cost of importing a car from the EU — customs, taxes, inspection and registration — before they commit. It started from a simple frustration: the official information exists, but it is spread over many federal and cantonal websites.
Independent and neutral
We do not sell cars and we do not import them. The calculator shows the same result whoever you buy from.
Official sources only
Duties, taxes, fees and exchange rates come from the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), the federal energy and roads offices and the cantonal vehicle offices. Every line links to its source.
Honest about unknowns
If a value is not known for your case we say so — we never turn an unknown into a favourable number. Contingent savings such as a foreign VAT refund are always shown separately.
Who is behind Import Pilot
Import Pilot is run by an independent team based in Switzerland. We are not tied to any dealer, importer or garage.
We keep the rules catalogue up to date with the official sources and publish every change. If something in your result looks wrong, tell us — we would rather fix a number than have you rely on it.
How we work with vendors: Import Pilot is a broker only. For every service you choose the provider yourself, and each contract is concluded directly between you and the selected vendor. Import Pilot is not a party to these contracts and does not perform the services itself.
